BEN POWER (Whistle/Irish Flute/Uilleann Pipes)
Ben is a traditional musician from outside Liverpool, England. He’s mainly an Irish flute player and a singer, and originated the flute, whistle and pipes (also bodhrán) part for Come From Away and played the show from its debut in La Jolla through its Broadway run, also serving as company ethnomusicologist and traditional instrument consultant. Ben also plays Scottish, Irish and English bellows bagpipes and English traditional music on the hurdy gurdy. Since playing Come From Away, he’s been inspired to make a study of Newfoundland trad music too, especially on the button accordion. It’s… coming along. Based in Vermont, he travels across North America performing and teaching with his small red heeler, Reeve. He is delighted to return again to Newfoundland to play Come From Away and to have some tunes with the local musicians.
